We had spent one week together at a Festival of Illumination in the mountains of Golden Bay on the South Island of New Zealand. All of us, from somewhere else. Our hearts beating as one. This journey into the bush was our farewell to the good times. A moment to thank the land and begin a new adventure.
Upon our arrival at the hole, everyone scattered. We wanted to expose ourselves to natures beauty, each as our own. Many thoughts flooded my mind, "What is light without darkness? Could this hole reach down to the core of the Earth? What would happen if I slipped?" Dark thoughts jabbed at my sides, because what was there to stop me?We were all on this path of thought. Nature is raw and we are only human. Harwoods was a curious place, and we, ten, stood in awe.
Upon those rocks we all stared down into the bow of deep shadows and in a scuffled silence, One began chanting. A beautiful young native Maori woman began her call, "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo," her voice took the edge off of my dark dusky dream state. It lead me back to light.
Out of nowhere, a man of Moriori Descent began chanting with her, in unison they called the wild unto us. Next, an agile Swiss boy appeared above us playing his fiddle to the sky. Three girls with paint splattered faces held hands, two Japanese boys opened their chests upwards, and a handsome dreaded man looked to the birds on high. There I made my voice heard, in harmony with Sunny Ray. We could sense that our finale marked the beginning of a creative lifelong bond.
I closed my eyes to let the light in.
The winds picked up and our stillness became a dance, a trance...to ignite deeply a wild romance of ten strangers paying homage to the elemental creator of Earth, Wind, Water and Fire. Music, Art and Movement. Our voices filled the Worlds deepest void with harmonies yet unheard, a celebration of Life and Light.
What unites us nomadic folk, is an appreciation for Earth. Wholistically human, barefeet crackin' the dustwhip to reach a Universal truth of Peace, Love and Happiness. Moments so powerful that one breath of song could pulse the trees into cadence.
All of us joined there at the Apex of Feminine Light to rejoice in a World co-created by a willing Whanau who believe, above all else, to Let It Be.
We are as we are. We come as we come. The gypsy dance lasts as long as you invite. On that night, we opened our hearts to the sky and let Mama Nature express her Love through us
